The Wave Approach is based on the PRINCE2 project management methodology, supported by research conducted by the Centre for Decision Support and Business Intelligence at Monash University and real world experience across many projects. The Wave Approach is scaled and tailored to the specific needs of the client and the project, balancing the competing aspects of rigid project management with the flexibility and dynamics involved in designing and delivering Enterprise Information Solutions. Experience shows that strict methodologies do not lend themselves well to the area of information management as the end goal is not always clear or can be prescribed with full detail at the beginning. In fact the goal and time line may change as the project progresses due to organizational dynamics. These initiatives by virtue of the business dynamics lend themselves to iterative development involving key stakeholders.
